Then it’s real.)The haunt kicks off September 19 and runs through November 8, 2025. Here’s what Aurora locals should know:Locals Nights: Aurora residents get discounted tickets on select weekdays! Yes, seriously.New Scares: Every year, Basement updates scenes, characters, and effects. 2025 brings a new maze section known as The Veil, promising “zero light, zero sound, and zero mercy.”Before you even get inside, street performers, stilt walkers, and DJ beats are waiting to get you hyped (and creeped out). Aurora Welcomes New Law to Improve Emergency Response Safety

Aurora Welcomes New Law to Improve Emergency Response Safety

Aurora and Kane County residents can expect safer, faster emergency responses thanks to a newly signed Illinois law that changes how emergency vehicles move through intersections. The Law: House Bill 2442Governor J.B. Pritzker recently signed House Bill 2442, which allows local and county emergency management agencies to install and operate traffic signal preemption devices. These devices give fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles the ability to change or extend traffic lights while responding to emergencies. For residents, this means quicker response times, smoother passage through busy intersections, and most importantly — reduced risks of collisions when seconds matter most. Why It Matters for AuroraAurora, as Illinois’ second-largest city, sees its share of congested intersections and high-traffic roadways. In life-or-death situations, every second counts. By empowering emergency responders with this technology, Kane County officials have addressed what they called an “unacceptable risk” under the old system, where first responders were often left vulnerable to accidents while crossing red lights. With this law, emergency teams can:Improve safety for drivers and pedestrians by reducing confusion at intersections.Cut down response times for fires, accidents, and medical emergencies.Save lives by ensuring faster arrival of critical services.Local Leadership and AdvocacyKane County Emergency Management Director Scott Buziecki helped push for the change, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing responder and public safety. Aurora stands to benefit directly from this legislative win, as it further strengthens the region’s emergency infrastructure.Looking AheadThe law is a technical upgrade; It’s a step toward a smarter, safer Aurora. As these devices are implemented across intersections in the coming months and years, residents can expect a stronger layer of protection whenever emergencies arise.Aurora Buzz will continue to follow developments and share updates on how this new technology is being rolled out in our community.

Warehouse 55

Warehouse 55

Warehouse 55: A Curated Marketplace for Creators and EntrepreneursWarehouse 55 has become one of the Midwest’s most respected vintage showrooms, known for blending modern, contemporary, and antique furnishings with curated home décor and fashion. Originally launched in Aurora in 2019, the venture was founded by Mark Allen Shouldeen, who saw an opportunity to transform a historic downtown space into a collaborative retail hub. What began with 30 vendors quickly grew to nearly 50 curated dealers, spread across two floors in Aurora and later into a second boutique shop in Chicago. The growth underscored the appetite for thoughtfully selected vintage and modern décor—and the ability of Warehouse 55 to serve as more than just a store. It’s a platform for independent dealers, artisans, and curators to showcase their craft and build viable small businesses.A Move to BataviaIn Fall 2025, Warehouse 55 is relocating from its Aurora flagship to an 8,000-square-foot one-story historic warehouse in downtown Batavia (160 1st Street). This new space brings all vendors together on a single floor—a long-time goal for the team. Their last day in Aurora is October 5, with a grand reopening in Batavia on October 18, complete with Christmas décor and followed by their popular holiday market on October 24.According to manager Mindy Schloss, “For years, we’ve needed all one floor. The building is gorgeous.” The Batavia location not only solves that need, but also offers room for future growth while maintaining Warehouse 55’s signature charm.Impact on Creators and EntrepreneursWarehouse 55 is more than a retail destination—it’s a launchpad for creators. By providing vendor spaces in a highly curated, design-forward environment, it gives dealers access to foot traffic, brand credibility, and a customer base they might not attract on their own. The model allows small businesses and individual curators to:Build profitability without the overhead of a standalone storefront.Test and refine their offerings in a collaborative, supportive setting.Connect with design-savvy customers, including HGTV’s Windy City Rehab host Alison Victoria, who featured Warehouse 55 in multiple episodes.Participate in themed events like holiday markets that generate consistent buzz and sales opportunities. This cooperative approach empowers local entrepreneurs—many of them creatives, pickers, and designers—to turn passion into profit while helping Warehouse 55 remain a premier shopping destination. What They OfferWarehouse 55’s mix is diverse and dynamic, including:Vintage and antique furnitureMid-century and retro collectiblesRepurposed and upcycled home décorArt, clothing, and fashion piecesCarefully selected new home accentsTheir ever-changing inventory keeps the shopping experience fresh and ensures return visits from both locals and destination shoppers across Chicagoland.Looking AheadAs Warehouse 55 plants new roots in Batavia, it’s poised to continue its dual role:A curated retail destination that brings character and charm to downtowns.A business incubator for creatives, proving that artistry, design, and entrepreneurship can thrive together. For those looking to support independent creators—or even become one—Warehouse 55 represents both a marketplace and a movement.Learn more: warehouse55.shop

Standing with Leilani: A Call to Support Our Aurora Neighbors

In the heart of Downtown Aurora, Leilani Asian Fusion wasn't just a restaurant, it was a celebration of culture, connection, and community. From the moment it opened its doors, Leilani embodied the values of love, loyalty, and legacy, values reflected not just in its menu but in the relationships it built with customers and staff alike. But on a recent day, everything changed.Due to a decision made, Leilani closed abruptly with just a single day’s notice.. leaving dozens of devoted staff without jobs, paychecks, or time to prepare.A GoFundMe campaign titled Stand with Leilani – Staff Job Loss Aid to support the employees affected by this unexpected closure was set up by a server Angela, who unexpectedly lost her job. Every dollar raised will be evenly distributed among the staff, servers, cooks, bartenders, and kitchen crew.. who suddenly found themselves without income.Your support will help cover basic necessities like:Rent and utilitiesGroceries and transportationJob search costs (like childcare or resume prep)Even a small donation can make a huge difference during this uncertain time.Leilani Asian Fusion brought a unique culinary voice to Aurora, blending flavors, cultures, and stories in a way that left a lasting impression. For many of us on staff, it was the best job we’d ever had. While the restaurant's doors may have closed, the love and community Leilani built live on.This isn’t the end of the Leilani story. But until they find their next chapter, the former employees are asking for a bit of help from the town they were proud to serve.Ways to Support💵 Donate here📣 Share the campaign with friends, coworkers, and on social media🤝 Know of job openings for front or back of house staff? Where Math Grows: A New Way to Learn at the Marie Wilkinson Community Garden

Where Math Grows: A New Way to Learn at the Marie Wilkinson Community Garden

There’s something new sprouting at the Marie Wilkinson Community Garden and it’s not just tomatoes and basil.Tucked between rows of sunflowers and raised garden beds is a space where kids aren’t just digging in the dirt, they’re discovering math through play.Welcome to the Playful Learning Landscape, a vibrant outdoor exhibit designed to bring numbers, shapes, and patterns to life in the most joyful way possible.Installed in summer 2025, the Playful Learning Landscape is a series of five interactive math stations nestled into the garden across from the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry. Created in collaboration with the Chicago Children’s Museum, SPARK Early Childhood Collaboration, and Metropolitan Family Services, this space is all about turning everyday moments into learning opportunities.Kids can hop through geometric grids, count garden treasures like stones and leaves, and explore puzzles that encourage spatial thinking, sorting, and problem-solving.The best part? It’s free, open to the public, and made for all ages. This exhibit isn’t just a drop-in playground. It’s the result of a community-driven design process, where local parents, educators, and kids helped shape what they wanted to see.Aurora was selected as one of just three Illinois communities to launch a Playful Learning site alongside Little Village and North Lawndale in Chicago. It’s a major step toward ensuring equitable access to early learning, especially in spaces that families already visit.“This is more than a math station,” said one volunteer from SPARK. “It’s about meeting kids where they are and empowering caregivers to teach and connect, no classroom required.”Why It MattersEarly math skills like sorting, comparing, counting, and spatial reasoning are critical building blocks for future success. But too often, these skills are tied to formal school settings.By embedding learning tools into a garden that’s already buzzing with family life, the Marie Wilkinson exhibit helps turn math into something that’s fun, approachable, and rooted in everyday curiosity. When to VisitThe Playful Learning area is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, no appointment or fee needed. Whether you’re dropping off donations at the food pantry, harvesting your garden plot, or just out for a stroll, it’s the perfect stop for an impromptu learning moment.Pair It with a Garden VisitWant to make a day of it? Families can explore the garden’s educational zones, take part in free cooking demos, or check out upcoming events like the Garden Harvest Dinner (August 9, 2025) all while encouraging kids to count peas and measure garden rows. You can even volunteer to help maintain the garden or support the learning stations!Learn more at: mariewilkinsonfoodpantry.orgOr follow the garden team at charityblooms.orgIn a city that continues to grow in heart and innovation, this new math exhibit is planting more than just knowledge, it’s nurturing confidence, curiosity, and connection. Next time you're in the neighborhood, stop by the garden and let your little ones lead the way. After all, math is everywhere and now, it's growing right here in Aurora.
